Measure is distance, distance is the best way to control an opponent.

There are 2 measures in a fight. Your measure and your opponents. It is simply the optimum striking zones. Silver calls it times, which can be unhelpful, but also clarifies it a little.

Wide measure is where you can strike someone with moving your feet.

Close Measure is where you can strike with using the hand.

It is possible, and unpleasant to be in wide measure when your opponent is in close. A successful void can put you in close measure while your opponent is having to recover.

For my mindset, measure is the art of being just out of reach. You don't have to be particularly good with the blade if you have this skill, and you can use counter cuts rather than plays. It is the way to control a faster opponent- you don't need to be faster than them if they have to nove across more distance.
